A will-o’-wisp is a type of lamb

A will-o’-wisp is a type of lamb

Except you won’t lead it, so it will lead you.

While a lamb needs a shepherd, the wisp is the shepherd –

Not out of passion, but necessity.

While a lamb will die quickly, its blood staining the altar

The wisp shall burn eternally in a faint, misleading light

At the corner of your eye;

And it will not die. No, it will not die.

You speak of salvation and doom,

Of demons hiding in the shadows and angels waiting up above —

Tell me, then, what about this bog, what about this pasture?

What about the flame burning in the heart of the lamb?

You claim you’ve met the god – lead me to it.

You want to kill me, gut me like a fish

Insides spilling out, red coloring the grass —

And above it all, a heavenly light shining brightly from behind the clouds

Above it all, the divine choirs!

Alright, then! Lead me there!

Trample all over the path, shoo the ghosts away!

They fear you so, the dead and the alive

I haven’t the slightest idea why.

And right there, in the shadow of a tree, a light flickering

In the eyes of a lamb, a lamb standing very still

With only its tail twitching;

You needed yourself a perfect victim – you have found it – get right to it.
